Champion short description:

Ekko is a unique assassin, as the basics are relatively easy to learn. However, a good Ekko player with a lot of experience can get a lot out of this champion, as you have an almost infinite number of options. His waveclear is very effective and simple, which makes farming with him much easier. In this guide, I will explain the basics and summarize the most important information so that you can get off to a good start with Ekko.

Description Skill Order:

On Ekko, you always maximize your abilities in the same way: Q as your main waveclear tool, E follows second to lower the cooldown and increase damage, and W last.

Tips:

  • Level 1 trade:
Against opponents who are weak at level 1 (such as Syndra), you can start with the E and dash directly at the opponent, trigger the passive and then run back out. However, only play this trade with Hail of Blades, otherwise we won’t be able to trigger the passive fast enough. However, make sure you only do this against opponents who are weak at level 1, otherwise you can put yourself in a very unfavorable position.
  • Ult Deception:The first time you use your Ult, you can deceive your opponents by not skilling the ability immediately. As long as you have not learned the ult, the bounce indicator remains invisible. This means that your opponents will not know where you are teleported to and will be less able to react. The advantage is that you can surprise your opponents. The disadvantage, however, is that you cannot see the destination yourself and have to make a good guess as to where you will end up. This trick is particularly suitable for experienced Ekko players who are familiar with the mechanics.
  • The shield of the W:
The biggest power budget of your W lies in the thick shield you get. Of course, you should try to hit the W and anticipate your opponents’ movements, but it doesn’t matter if it misses as long as you take the shield with you. Most Ws won’t hit the enemy anyway. You should still use it regularly, as it hardly costs any mana. This way, you can protect yourself before you want to push in the wave and absorb a lot of damage. So don’t focus too much on the stun and use the shield to your advantage.
  • Animation Canceling:
You can combine Q-Animation with your E-Dash to use both abilities in very quick succession. This is the most important mechanic on Ekko and should definitely be practiced in practice mode before you enter the actual game. The only downside is that it becomes harder to hit the Q. If you have enough time, it is therefore worth approaching the opponent with the E first and then using the Q, as it is easier to hit that way. You have to weigh up how quickly you need to apply your damage.
  • Ult use:
In your first few games you should get a feel for your ult and learn how best to use it. Ideally, you should secure yourself with the W beforehand so that you don’t have to use the ult to escape. A good sequence is EQ → Autoattack. Use the running speed from the passive and the large W shield to run out and then jump back with the ult to surprise the opponent. It is particularly effective if you disappear from the enemy’s view (e.g. into a bush), as they can no longer see your ult indicator and are therefore less able to react. But don’t tunnel on it if you have to use the ult earlier. Better than dying!
  • Late game – Poke strategy:
Late game, you can play Ekko a bit like a poke champion, especially in long sieges under towers. Since the ult has a very low cooldown, you can place your W, use your combo on a target with no healing options, trigger the passive and immediately jump back with the ult. The ult should only have about 30-40 seconds of cooldown, giving your team a window of time to play 4v5. Later on, the target is usually not the ADC, as it has a lot of life steal and the strategy is less effective.
  • Hide W:
Just as you can hide the Q animation in the E, this is also possible with the W. Although this is rarely useful, it can be helpful in certain situations.
  • Deactivate Smartcast:
Since precise placement of the W is very important, I recommend playing this ability without Smartcast (quick spell).

Items you can put on Ekko buy

Description of the build path:

Ekko is an AP assassin who can use on-hit effects very well. Items with a lot of AP and magic penetration are particularly effective on him. It often makes sense to buy as many AP components as possible so that you can finish off the minions with a Q early in the game.
