Champion short description:

Wukong is a Vastayan trickster who relies on his strength, agility and intelligence to confuse his opponents and gain the upper hand. After making a friend for life in Master Yi, Wukong became the last student of the ancient martial art known as Wuju. With his enchanted staff, Wukong has set himself the goal of saving Ionia from destruction.

He accomplishes this goal in the Summoner’s Cloak as a skirmish-heavy bruiser with plenty of outplay potential. Wukong belongs to the category of easy-to-learn champions who still give the player plenty of room to improve. At the same time, a well-played Wukong is an asset to any team, as he can use his kit both offensively to engage and defensively to peel or distract opponents. He is especially feared by careless Adcs, as he can cover a lot of distance with his W and E and has a hard Engage with his Ult. If he is well in play, Wukong usually has enough damage to remove an opponent’s carry from the fight with one or two combos and is therefore often a threat that cannot be ignored.

Description Skill Order:

At level 1, you start your Jungle Clear with Wukong’s E “Nimbus Strike”, as it deals more damage than the Q at level 1 and you can therefore clear your first camp more quickly. When the E is activated, Wukong dashes to the clicked target and deals magic damage to both the selected target and up to 2 nearby enemies. This damage is increased against monster camps. Afterwards, both Wukong and his clone gain additional attack speed for 5 seconds. If it comes to a level 1 fight, Wukong can hold his own surprisingly well thanks to the Gapcloser and the increased attack speed. However, it should only be your plan to force such situations against rather weak early champions. It is also important to know that you can already click on an opponent outside of E range and if you then flash into range, your E will be triggered immediately. This allows you to minimize the reaction time for your opponent and thus also reduce the likelihood that he will manage to flash away before your ult.

At level 2 you skill your Q “Smash” for the first time, which is your main source of damage and is therefore the first to be maximized. It is an autoattack reset and Wukong’s next attack gains additional attack range, deals additional damage and reduces the opponent’s armor for 3 seconds. In addition, the cooldown of this ability is reduced by 0.5 seconds each time Wukong or his clone hits an enemy with an attack or ability. Due to the relatively low cooldown of Q, you can use it very often later in battles. It is ideal for finishing off opponents who are trying to escape with the extra reach of your staff.

At level 3, you complete your skill set with the W “Tricky Warrior”. When activated, Wukong becomes invisible for 1 second, dashes in the selected direction and leaves behind a clone that attacks nearby enemies. Like your E, this ability can be used to overcome thin walls. It offers you a lot of outplay potential if you use it at the right time. For example, your clone can block an important skillshot for you while you retreat or reposition after an Engage. If you use it out of your opponent’s line of sight, you can also use the W and E in combination to cover a lot of distance to get close to your opponents. The W can also be used during your Q animation and if you are fast enough, the clone will spawn faster than the Q strikes and accordingly the clone will also strike for extra damage. Last but not least, it allows you to play mind games with your opponents. By simply standing still, you can pretend that you have used your W and thus mislead your opponents. However, this technique is more common among experienced Wukong players and newcomers should refrain from using it for the time being, as in the worst case you simply take extra damage while doing nothing. The W is maximized as the last ability, as Wukong relies on the extra damage from more points in Q and E.

As with all champs, level the ult “Cyclone” to level 6 for the first time and then whenever possible. When activated, Wukong gains additional movement speed, extends his staff and spins it in a circle. All enemies hit are thrown into the air and take damage. The ult can be reactivated once within 8 seconds to use the same effect again. Like the Q, it is also copied by your clone, which means that you can often hit the entire opposing team with one or even two knockups with a well-placed clone. The Wukong Ult can be used in various ways, both as an engage tool and to peel your own carry or disrupt an opponent’s engage. When and for what purpose you use your ult activations in a teamfight often determines how much influence you have on its outcome.

Wukong’s passive is “Stoneskin”, which grants you additional resistances and life regeneration. It doesn’t sound spectacular at first, but these bonuses are increased by 50% for 5 seconds each time Wukong or his clone hits an enemy champion or Jungle Monster with an attack or ability. This effect can stack up to 10 times and makes Wukong quite tanky in prolonged fights, allowing you to counter-heal with your runes and items and be a strong duelist and skirmisher.

As far as combos are concerned, in early ganks and fights on the first levels you usually want to engage with E, burst your opponent with Q and use W to chase or disengage. This can look like this, for example: E->AA->Q->AA->W->AA->Q

From level 6 you have your ult at your disposal and can incorporate it into your combos. Your full damage combo would then be e.g: E->AA->Q->R->AA->Q->W->AA->R->AA->Q

If you want to engage nearby opponents, we recommend (Flash->)E->Q->W->R->AA->Q->R->AA->Q->E

On the other hand, if you want to engage as far away as possible, you should use W->E->R->AA->Q->R->AA->Q.

Items you can put on Wukong buy

Description of the build path:

Wukong is a classic bruiser or diver, so he wants to be both tanky and deal good damage. For this we need AD and life above all, but skill speed is also very important for the Divers so that you can really kill an opponent with an Engage. Tank items are the third and fourth most important items to avoid being geoneshotted in a teamfight.
