Champion short description:

The completely insane and terrifyingly purple Dr. Mundo not only causes nightmares for the inhabitants of Zhaun, but also for his opponents in the Summoner’s Rift. For a melee fighter, the Madman of Zhaun has an astonishing amount of poke, which, together with his sustain, makes landing against Mundo very unpleasant. Mundo is not dependent on mana, but pays for the use of his abilities with his own health points. This allows him to spam his poke indefinitely as long as he himself is healthy.

Mundo’s greatest strengths include his enormous tankiness and his fantastic lategame scaling. Thanks to his ultimate, Mundo effectively has almost 2 health bars available later in the game and can therefore take more damage than most tanks. Only very few champions, such as Sion or Zac, come close to Mundo’s tankiness. Mundo is not a classic tank, but plays as a juggernaut, which in turn can deal a high constant damage output. As a result, Mundo can not only withstand a lot, but is also a threat to the opponent’s carries. Mundo can literally roll over an enemy team if he is ignored. This makes him a strong team fighter, as he cannot be ignored and attracts a lot of attention. This in turn gives his own carries a lot of space to play freely and deal their damage. However, these advantages also come with a few drawbacks, which is why Mundo’s earlygame is really weak. He can hold his own in 1v1 duels in most matchups from level 6 at the latest, but his ganks are really not the yellow of the egg due to the lack of hard CC. This also remains a weakness for Mundo later in the game, as he relies on his opponents’ mistakes and his teammates’ engages to be able to intervene effectively in fights. Mundo’s best Engage is to slow down an opponent with his Q and then run him down. Therefore, he can also be easily kited as soon as he misses his Qs.

In terms of difficulty, Mundo is one of the easier champions to learn, it just takes some practice to hit the important Qs regularly and to time the Ws and Ults correctly. However, he does offer some room for skill expression, as it takes a lot of experience to fully utilize his tankiness, which is dependent on self-healing, and to correctly assess how much you can take and when you need to go out in team fights.

Description Skill Order:

Mundo’s passive is “Go where he wants” and ensures that Mundo periodically resists the first immobilizing effect that hits him. Instead, he loses 4% of his current life and drops a canister of chemicals nearby, which remains in place for 7 seconds. Mundo can pick it up by running over it, restoring 4% of his maximum life and reducing the cooldown of this passive by 15 seconds. Enemy champions can destroy the canister by running over it. Mundo also has increased life regeneration and recovers a percentage of his maximum life every 5 seconds. Thanks to this passive, you can take enemy poke very well, and it also lets you ignore CC from enemies again and again and gives you additional sustain. However, pay attention to when it makes sense to collect the canister and when you should concentrate on fighting or running away.

At level 1, you skill Mundo’s Q, the “Rusty Bonesaw”. When activated, Mundo throws a rusty bonesaw that deals damage to the first enemy hit based on their current health and slows them by 40% for 2 seconds. If the Bone Saw hits a champion or monster, Mundo also regains 50 health and 25 health if it hits a minion. The Q is your longest range ability and the best way to get to your opponents. It is also spammable due to the low cooldown of 4 seconds and contributes well to your damage output. As the damage percentage increases with additional ability points, maximize this ability first.

At level 2, you level up Mundos E, the “Blunt Force”. This ability first passively ensures that Mundo receives additional attack damage based on his maximum life. When activated, Mundo rams his “medicine bag” into an opponent and inflicts additional damage based on the opponent’s missing life. If the enemy dies as a result, he is flung away and deals damage to all enemies he hits in his path. This ability is also an autoattack reset, so you can use AA->E to burst enemies. Since this ability helps you clear minion waves and also increases your damage output with more ability points, you maximize it second.

At level 3, you complete your basic abilities with Mundo’s W, the “Heart Shocker”. If you activate this ability, Mundo will energize himself for 3 seconds. He continuously inflicts damage on nearby enemies and stores some of the damage he takes himself. When reactivating the W or at the end of its duration, Mundo triggers an explosion that deals high damage to nearby enemies over a short period of time. If the explosion hits an enemy, Mundo heals himself for the stored damage, otherwise for half of it. So if you use this ability at the right time, you can directly counter-heal burst damage from your opponents. As the cooldown of the W is quite long at 17 seconds and is not reduced by additional ability points, maximize it last.

Mundo’s ultimate ability “Full (Am)Pulle” can be leveled at levels 6, 11 and 16. When used, Mundo pumps himself full of chemicals and immediately heals himself for a percentage of his missing life. He then gains movement speed and regenerates part of his maximum life over 10 seconds. At the highest level, both healing effects are increased by an additional 5% per enemy champion that is in Mundo’s vicinity during activation. With this ult, you can bait opponents into fights very effectively and then surprise them with your exceptional stamina through the heals and turn the tables.

Description of the build path:

Dr. Mundo’s abilities scale with life and accordingly this value should be the most important when choosing items. With Mundo, a lot of life also means a lot of damage. And since it also makes you very tanky, it’s a win-win for Mundo. But life alone doesn’t make a champion tanky, so you should also build armor and magic resistance (especially from the second or third item onwards).
